He was the first conductor of the Basque National Orchestra when it was still up and coming. He was closely linked to Basque music, leading the Eresoinka choir during the Civil War and he has connections with composers such as Aita Donostia and Jesús Guridi. Nevertheless his career attained international projection and Jordá led the most important orchestras in the world and was the chief conductor at the San Francisco Symphonic for eleven seasons. Even so, he jumped at the chance to take the role of artistic consultant on the team setting up the Basque National Orchestra project.
Jordá made his mark on this group and in turn they showed their appreciation for his significant contribution by making him conductor of honour in 1983.
