Schools
At a time when society is offering so much stimulation to boys, girls and young people, it becomes more than ever necessary to build bridges and communicating roads by running a programme of musical activities enabling an approach to classical music. With this objective, the Basque National Orchestra maintains a steady network with the educational world in our country, in all areas and at all levels.
In 2007, our "Tempo di Martxa!" marked the launch of this line of action. This was a travelling music classroom which visited a large number of schools and welcomed more than 20,000 boys and girls. Since then, school activities have grown and earned consolidation, both regarding the number of activities and the number of participating schools and public reached.
In these activities, the participants developed their musical skills and creativity as well as learning to exchange ideas. They saw how different arts came together on stage, and overcame their inhibitions and shyness. Classical music started to become part of their lives.
Concerts for Schoolchildren
Boys, girls and young students come to the concert hall during the school day to hear the orchestra, through proposals purposely designed to bring them closer to live classical music and particularly to symphony music. Every season includes at least one project for each educational stage.
Workshops for Teachers
Prior to the Concerts for Schoolchildren, free Workshops for Teachers are organised for those who come along to the concerts for schoolchildren with their pupils. In these, the concert structure and its objectives is explained, and work is carried out on some of the contents to be developed in the concert. Here the aim is to foster participation, active listening and heightened enjoyment of the activity.
Open Rehearsals
An activity offering the opportunity to take a close-up look at how the orchestra functions moments prior to a concert, hear the comments of the conductors, watch the interaction between musicians, conductors and soloists, and many other aspects and details not usually seen at concerts.
Visits to the orchestra’s Miramón Headquarters
Intended for higher education students in all fields, these visits have a double objective: to reveal the internal workings of the Orchestra and to give pupils the opportunity to attend the total or partial audition of one of its rehearsals.
