The Orchestra

A national orchestra

The Basque Country is culture, ancient and contemporary. It is music, traditional and avant garde.

In this context, promoted and developed by the Basque Government Department of Culture, the Basque National Orchestra was born in 1982 in a society where music is a shared asset, a rich heritage of which the Orchestra is the depository and in regard to which it also assumes the task of circulating and fostering its development. Today the Orchestra is a nationwide symphony formation, a group strongly rooted to its community; an orchestra of its time, with extremely high standards of expectation and a firm commitment to spread knowledge of symphony music from all periods, but which places special emphasis on the creation and expansion of Basque music both inside our borders and out.
