A national orchestra
In this context, promoted and developed by the Basque Government Department of Culture, the Basque National Orchestra was born in 1982 in a society where music is a shared asset, a rich heritage of which the Orchestra is the depository and in regard to which it also assumes the task of circulating and fostering its development. Today the Orchestra is a nationwide symphony formation, a group strongly rooted to its community, with 7,000 subscribers and an average of 150,000 spectators every year; an orchestra of its time, with extremely high standards of expectation and a firm commitment to spread knowledge of symphony music from all periods, but which places special emphasis on the creation and expansion of Basque music both inside our borders and out.
