Illustrations musicales pour La vie profonde de Saint François d’Assise in terms of scale and duration is the most ambitious work ever created by Aita Donostia. This is the incidental music for a play by Henri Ghéon, lasting over four hours, which premiered in Paris in 1926 to mark the 700th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis, the order to which the friar and composer from San Sebastián belonged. Aita Donostia provides an unusually rich palette of sounds for its music in which spirituality coexists with a meditative element, the radiance of choral music, Basque folk traditions, and the compositional innovations characteristic of the Parisian avant-garde of the interwar period. This primary cultural revival will be led by Ernest Martínez Izquierdo, who will be joined by the actress Annie Dutoit-Argerich, the tenor Luken Munguira and the Easo and Easo Gazte choirs. Fernando Bernués will be the stage director and David Ferré the dramaturgy director.
