Andrés Orozco-Estrada
"I want to make an excellent orchestra out of this already fine one" (2009-2013)
Andrés Orozco-Estrada is Principal Conductor of the Basque National Orchestra, a responsibility he combines with his position as Principal Conductor of the Tonkünstler Orchestra Niederösterreich in Vienna. Having lived in Vienna for 15 years, he has conducted several major orchestras including the Munich Philharmonic, the Gewandhaus Leipzig, the Vienna and Bamberg Symphonies, the Berlin Symphony Orchestra, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Madrid Symphony Orchestra and Frankfurt Symphony Orchestra, etc. In his autumn 2010 debut with the Vienna Philharmonic, Orozco-Estrada was acclaimed as "a brilliant stand-in" for Esa-Pekka Salonen (“Wiener Zeitung”) and recognised as an “eminent talent” (“Die Presse”).
In recent months he has toured in South American with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and in the United Kingdom with the Tonkünstler. He has also debuted with the German Youth Philharmonic and will do the same with the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra. Orozco-Estrada will conduct the Radio-Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart, NDR Hannover, and the Orchestra of the Komische Oper Berlin, among others.
