Juanjo Mena, the most internationally renowned Basque conductor, returns to the Basque National Orchestra Season. For the first part, he will conduct Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Clarinet Concerto, with Mark Simpson as the soloist. For the second part, Mena will present Franz Schubert's symphonic masterpiece, the Symphony no. 9, «The Great». Recovered by Schumann from a bundle of papers, it reveals both the influence of Beethoven’s symphonies and his desire to transcend them. Given its length and complexity, it was not performed regularly until 50 years after Schubert's death.
