After the resounding success of its first edition, Abestu Euskadiko Orkestrarekin returns to once again bring together a hundred enthusiastic amateur voices to sing along with the orchestra. This popular introduction is followed by one of the great cello concertos of Romanticism, which Schumann wrote shortly after settling in Düsseldorf in 1850. During these happy months - so rare in his unhappy biography - Schumann experienced an explosion of creativity from which this intense and rapturous concerto sprang, to be brought to life by the German cellist Johannes Moser, back in our Season after his acclaimed performances in recent years. The second part will take us from Germany to Italy through two symphonic poems that Ottorino Respighi dedicated to the city of Rome, which go far beyond mere landscape impressionism. Riccardo Frizza, a fellow citizen of the composer's and an old friend of the Basque National Orchestra, will conduct these suggestive scenes of skilful symphonic writing.
