Marie Jacquot, Principal Guest Conductor of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, will make her début with the Basque National Orchestra with two creations that confront youth and maturity. Youthful genius is represented by Mozart, who achieved fame from childhood and wrote Piano Concerto No. 20 at the age of 29. It will be performed by Markus Schirmer, a renowned Austrian pianist and professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. And opposite Mozart, Bruckner, who finally achieved some international success at the age of 60, with the première of his Symphony No. 7. The letter he sent to Felix Mottl while he was writing it is famous: “The thought had crossed my mind that before long the Master [Wagner] would die, and just then the C sharp minor theme of the Adagio came to me”. The immensity of the 70-minute work, with a clear Wagnerian influence, is at the service of a deep spirituality that Bruckner brought to the surface through great musical forms.
