A high point of in this new concert programme is to be able to present a first for Euskadi: the Percussion Concerto by the prestigious German composer Detlev Glanert, which he completed barely a year ago and which will now be performed by the same soloist who premiered it with the Arctic Philharmonic Orchestra, the young percussion prodigy Christoph Sietzen. Conductor Christoph-Mathias Mueller, who also participated in that premiere and whom we saw here a couple of seasons ago, will then explore the romantic harmonies of Johannes Brahms' Symphony No.2. When it was first performed in 1877, the Viennese so loved the gentle, brilliant nature of this symphony that they called it the "Viennese", as its first movement uses a three-four time signature similar to that of the waltz.
