Pablo Ferrández has gone from up-and-coming young musician to one of the most sought-after cellists of today. As part of our Season Concerts, Ferrández will debut one of his strongest cards, Dvořák's Cello Concerto, a passionate piece written right after the composer's New World Symphony. Edward Elgar's symphonies are less well known. But Robert Treviño is convinced of the value of Elgar's ambitious large-scale works and will be at the helm of the Orchestra to conduct Symphony No. 2 (1911). Elgar claimed to have 'written out his soul' in this fascinating one-hour score, a symphony that presents the density of Central European music of the period but with an unmistakably English character.
