The Orfeón Donostiarra is one of the closest collaborators of the Basque National Orchestra since its foundation in 1982. The choral ensemble is always present in our season concerts and this time we celebrate together its 125th anniversary with one of its great specialities, Carmina Burana, which they have performed on countless stages in Spain and abroad. This cantata, which German composer Carl Orff wrote in 1936, is based on medieval goliard poems that sing the praises of carnal love, nature and earthly joys to make a scathing critique of society at that time. Joining the performance will be soprano Jone Martínez, counter tenor Carlos Mena and baritone Javier Franco, under the direction of Pablo González, chief conductor of the RTVE Orchestra and previously of the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and National Orchestra of Catalonia.
