Information

Agata: a Basque Fantasy is the first of this season's world premières, a "Basque fantasy", composed by Stephen Hough, one of today's most highly-acclaimed pianists. In this piece, Hough included the Basque fipple flute, or txistu, (played by Garikoitz Mendizabal). Hough himself will then play Concerto for Piano by Antonín Dvořák, a composition written in homage to Brahms by the Bohemian composer and which is not often featured in concerts. Lastly, Robert Treviño will delight the audience with Enigma Variations, one of the most celebrated pieces in the British classical concert repertoire. Here, Edward Elgar portrays fourteen friends in music, using a wide range of musical resources and introducing a game, an enigma, which has yet to be solved one hundred years on.
