Information
The seventh programme of the Season affords us a new opportunity to become acquainted with the masterpiece of the Navarrese composer Pascual Aldave, the ballet Akelarre, written in 1986 to mark the 40th anniversary of the death of Pío Baroja. If in the first ticket programme we heard Basque Rhapsody no. 2, inspired by La dama de Urtubi, it now turns to Rhapsodies no. 3 and 4, based on another famous tale by the Basque writer, The Legend of Jaun de Alzate, with the participation of the Orfeón Pamplonés and Juan Laboreria. Lukasz Borowicz will then conduct Karol Szymanowski's Symphony No.2 in Iruña. Although he studied in Warsaw, in his youth Szymanowski travelled to Berlin and Vienna where he was astounded by the creations of German composers such as Richard Strauss and Max Reger, whose influence can be sensed in this symphony, completed in 1910 and which earned him a place on the European musical circuits at the age of just 28.
