If last season began with an unforgettable Schubertiade, the Basque National Orchestra’s new year will kick off with a grand event dedicated to Johannes Brahms. Cordial, of simple tastes and elevated emotions, Brahms was a kind-hearted petty bourgeois with an attitude towards life that was far removed from the extreme passions of Beethoven, Berlioz, or the young Liszt. Even so, he produced some of the 19th century’s most extraordinary musical moments, including his four symphonies that stand as fundamental pillars of orchestra repertoires around the world. Having chosen Brahms’ music for his first concert as our orchestra's conductor, Robert Trevino will defend this composer’s validity with a ten session marathon Brahms Fest where, apart from the four symphonies, the Concerto for Violin and Cello and two piano concertos will be presented together with soloists Dmitri Makhtin, Alexey Stadler, and Tom Borrow.
