Screening of the film The New Babylon (1929) by D. Kozintzev with a live performance of the music composed for it by Shostakovich on commission by the Basque National Orchestra, conducted by Mélanie Lévy-Thibaut.
The New Babylon is one of the best exponents of Soviet propaganda when commemorating the centenary of the 1917 Russian Revolution.
Prior to the concert, at 18:00, in the Kultur Plaza, there will be a talk given by Carlos Muguiro, director of the Elias Querejeta Zinema-Eskola and Doctor in Humanities with a thesis entitled “Aesthetic of nature in Russian and Soviet cinema". And Oriol Roch, General Manager of the BNO: Revolutions: rethinking the canon of Soviet cinema. Moderator: Joxean Fernandez, Director of the Filmoteca Vasca. Free admission until all places are taken.
