2014/2015 Season: “Reencounters”

2014/2015 Season: “Reencounters”
The start of the new 2014/2015 Season pivots around three essential activities: the presence of Jun Märkl as Musical Advisor; participation in the important European contemporary music festival at La Biennale di Venezia and the celebration of a season entitled “Reencounters”.

The start of the new 2014/2015 Season pivots around three essential activities: the presence of Jun Märkl as Musical Advisor; participation in the important European contemporary music festival at La Biennale di Venezia and the celebration of a season entitled "Reencounters", marked by the return of relevant artists, composers and events in musical history.

1. Jun Märkl, Musical Advisor. The prestigious German conductor, a regular in the major European formations, well known to the Basque Orchestra and its audience, will occupy the position of Musical Advisor for the 2014/2015 Season. His important presence launches the beginning of a stage during which the maestro will bring the Orchestra his experience and knowledge of the great repertoire.

2. The Basque Orchestra at La Biennale di Venezia. One of the most prestigious cultural institutions in the world, the Biennale encompasses art, music, dance, film, architecture, theatre and historical archive. The Basque Orchestra is listed on the bill of the 58th edition of the most prestigious contemporary music festival, with two concerts on October 9 and 10. In the first it will play works by Basque composers; and in the second works from the Tesela project (extended upon in the Other Activities section). The Basque Orchestra will therefore include yet another landmark in its history with this participation in the Biennale di Venezia.

3. The "Reencounters" of a new Season, 2014/2015. The "reencounters" with the public, with artists, with composers, with experiences and past experiences constitute the nature of a singular concert season: a memory and tribute to the spirit of Eresoinka as the ambassador of Basque culture; the re-release in concert version of the opera "La Llama" by José Mª Usandizaga on the 100th anniversary of his death; and the return of artists such as Ainhoa Arteta, María Bayo, Carlos Mena, Joaquín Achúcarro, Marta Zabaleta, Frank Peter Zimmermann and Elisabeth Leonskaja. A long list of artists who will appear at different moments in the new musical season.

Great names, commemorations and experiences will make the new Season Concerts a shared space for these "Reencounters".

In addition to the season concerts in Vitoria, Bilbao, San Sebastián and Pamplona is an important catalogue of activities and concerts in different formats, for different publics and always of the very highest standard, an offer that continues today to reach 150,000 spectators between the Miramón Matinées, the Music Room, the Jordá Gela Room, Orkestra Herrietan and participation in cultural events such as the ABAO, the San Sebastián Musical Fortnight, Zinemaldia, Musika-Música, Festival de Musique en Côte Basque, Musikaste, Soria, etc. All of these activities will mean that the Orchestra will continue to give around a hundred concerts in the coming Season.
