From Chopin to Debussy or Bartok, the night and its mysteries have been a source of inspiration for many composers. In this carefully crafted programme by Dinis Sousa, chief conductor of the Royal Northern Sinfonia, we will hear two night-themed works performed by the magnificent Suhar Korua: Schubert's choral lied Night Song in the Forest, for male voices and four horns, and the fourth movement of the cantata The Moments of the Day by Richard Strauss, the one dedicated to The Night, which will the lead into the Suite from the opera The Knight of the Rose by the same composer. But the biggest surprise awaits us in between, with Rendering, a hybrid creation with which Luciano Berio restored a symphony lost in the night: the Symphony No. 10 that Schubert was working on when he died at the age of 31. Based on the originals, Berio filled in "the empty spaces, between one sketch and another, composing a kind of connective tissue that is always different and changing".
