In the centenary of the Russian Revolution, the rebellion of Shostakovich against the Tsarist repression in 1905. And a magnificent Ravel.
The music of Maurice Ravel once again meets one of its best performers, the doyen of Basque pianism, Joaquín Achúcarro. The Concerto for the left hand, Achúcarro’s bone of contention, which he has defended on so many international stages, will be the perfect reason to celebrate the 85th birthday of the pianist from Bilbao, so close to our Orchestra since its foundation.
Another commemoration, that of the centenary of the Russian Revolution, will occupy the second part of this evening conducted by Robert Treviño, who has chosen one of the most spine-chilling pages of the Soviet repertoire: the Symphony no. 11 by Dimitri Shostakovich, portraying the tragic events of Bloody Sunday in 1905, when the Tsar’s Imperial Guard murdered hundreds of workers at the doors to the Winter Palace.
