In his brief but essential orchestral production, Maurice Ravel took the art of orchestration to a level of unprecedented sophistication. Robert Trevino proposes to take us deep into the magic of the Ravelian sound through four pieces with a Spanish inspiration in which the Basque composer makes full use of all the resources and colours of the orchestra.
And, along with Ravel, two other masters of orchestration: the Hungarian Bela Bartok, who in his Music for strings, percussion and celesta delved into a universe of nocturnal sounds and strange folk dances; and the American Aaron Copland, who with his Clarinet concerto helped to define the sound of the still young American music. The soloist will be Julian Bliss, a very influential contemporary clarinettist not only because of his outstanding quality as an interpreter but also because of his activism in pursuit of the democratisation of music.
