Miramón Matinées
Matinée 3: Arpeggio Sextet
R. Strauss
Capriccio. Introduction
P.I. Tchaikovsky
Souvenir of Florence
Information
Both form part of our lives. Memories accompany us, and whims stimulate us.
The German composer Richard Strauss (Munich, 1864-Garmisch-Partenkirchen, 1949) felt the whim to compose for string sextet the Introduction to his opera Capriccio, premiered in Munich in October 1942; the work therefore recently celebrated the 75th anniversary of its release.
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (Votkinsk, 1840 San Petersburg, 1893) brought as a souvenir of a visit to Florence one of the main themes of his string sextet, which he proceeded to entitle Souvenir de Florence. Dated in the summer of 1890, this piece was premiered, once revised, in 1892, 125 years ago.
