Mahler’s monumental Second Symphony takes the listener on a musical journey from existential angst to the hope of resurrection, through five movements that begin with a funeral rite and culminate in a choral finale of almost liturgical impact. Lucas Macías will guide the Basque National Orchestra through tis metaphysical journey alongside the young soprano from Bizkaia, Jone Martínez, one of the mot sought after voices nationwide and the Swiss-Russian mezzosoprano Nadezhda Karyazina, a regular artist in theatres such as the Zurich Opera House or the Staatsoper in Hamburg. And naturally, together with the Orfeón Donostiarra, a major specialist in this Mahler score which it has performed alongside legendary conductors such as Simon Rattle or Claudio Abbado, the mentor of Lucas Macías.
