Another event marks the fifth concert of the Season: the centenary of Eduardo Chillida's birth. As a tribute to him, the Basque National Orchestra has commissioned Chillida-Elogios from Antonio Lauzurika, one of the most important composers among those who emerged from the composition school founded by Bernaola in Vitoria-Gasteiz. This work is supported by the SGAE Foundation and AEOS. Framing this world première, Robert Trevino will direct two works that are like night and day. The first is literally so, as Joseph Haydn nicknamed his Symphony No. 8 “Evening”, completing a trilogy together with symphonies No. 6 (Morning) and No. 7 (Noon), composed in 1761 and which reflect the moods of different times of the day. As for Sergei Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 3, and in contrast to the tortuous hyper-romanticism that characterises much of his output, it is considered one of his most classical and optimistic works, especially due to a third movement that exudes joy and humour.
