Brahms’ “Song of Destiny”, Bernstein and Mahler’s First Symphony; spirituality and yearnings, with the vitamins of a grand orchestra sound.
The Orfeón Pamplonés, one of the oldest choral institutions in the country, will once again join our Orchestra to open the season with two works of enormous spirituality: the Song of Destiny by Brahms, in which divine happiness is set against human suffering; and Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, a brilliant celebration of life in the tradition of Jewish religion. Next, and in the same philosophical strain, Mahler’s first great symphony creation, his Symphony no. 1 in D major, nicknamed "Titan" for its heroic shift from darkness to light and which Bruno Walter described as “a symbolic romance whose real hero is the music.” All of a statement of intent by Robert Treviño, our chief conductor, who has meticulously designed the aesthetic paths of the season starting here.
