The Greatest

The circumnavigation of the world that Juan Sebastián Elkano completed 500 years ago is one of the most fascinating and significant stories of achievement in history. The project Elkano: Mundubira musika bidelagun, which over the course of four seasons has closely followed the stages of that feat, will end with the world première of Lorratz by Zuriñe F. Gerenabarrena, celebrating the arrival of the Nao Victoria ship in the harbour of Sanlúcar de Barrameda, thus completing the world’s first circumnavigation. Next, Robert Trevino will tackle one of the great cathedrals of the romantic repertoire, Anton Bruckner’s Symphony No. 8. Written in C minor and with a musical approach that progresses “from tragedy to triumph”, the Eighth gradually rises towards a symphonic apotheosis which in the hands of Trevino, the great specialist in the Austrian composer's music, will be memorable.
