Once again we welcome the young cellist Pablo Ferrández after his successful collaboration with the Orchestra and Robert Trevino in May 2019. This time, the two of them will play two concerts for cello that Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich wrote for Mstislav Rostropovich. Concerto No. 1, composed in 1959, is one of the most physical and difficult from his repertoire for this instrument, as Shostakovich was inspired by the prodigious virtuosity of the Russian cellist. However, in Concerto No. 2, from 1966, he wanted to explore “the intensity, the restless mind and elevated spirituality” of Rostropovich's performing style. Robert Trevino will tackle two symphonies by Schumann: the impressive Symphony No. 4, a masterpiece from the superb year 1841 in which Schumann left the piano to one side to focus on symphony music; and the spectacular Symphony No. 2, full of vitality despite the fact that Schumann wrote it during a period marked by serious mental health issues.
