Awakening

We begin 2023 with a big event for Basque music: the launch of a new piano concerto by Ramon Lazkano. In Mare Marginis, a joint assignment by Radio France, the Basque National Orchestra and the Westdeutscher Rundfunk WDR, this San Sebastian native sought to show “a sea without water that is also the location of al limit, which separates the visible from the invisible of the moon”. Alexandre Tharaud, a cult pianist due to his personal approach to the French repertoire, will sit down at the piano for this world première. In the second part, Robert Trevino will offer a further display of his affinity for the music of Mahler, who composed Symphony No. 5 after suffering a haemorrhage that took him to death's door. During his recovery, and reflecting on everything he had achieved in his life after so many struggles, Mahler wrote this symphony about awakening that starts with an indescribable trumpet solo.
