Sinfonía No.4 "Ingenua" + Sinfonía No.9
The Basque National Orchestra has a new entry in its discography: an album featuring Symphony No. 4, Ingenious, and Symphony no. 9 by the composer Ángel Illarramendi (Zarautz, 1958), performed by the orchestra under the baton of José Miguel Pérez-Sierra, and published internationally by Sony Classical España.
This project was conceived in the Spring of 2015. Symphony no. 4 “Ingenious”, composed in 1993, was recorded in late March at the Basque Orchestra’s Miramón headquarters; the texts accompanying the three movements making up the work, written by the author Juan Alberto Buenetxea and Illarramendi himself, were performed, in Basque, by the mezzo-soprano Maite Arruabarrena. The recording of Symphony no. 9, composed between 2012 and 2014, corresponds to its absolute release at the end of April in the framework of the Basque Orchestra’s Season Concerts; the live recording was made at the Kursaal Auditorium in San Sebastian. The edition had the backing of the Basque Government and of the SGAE Foundation.
