Over the last decades of the 19th century and the dawn of the 20th, Paris became a beacon for numerous Spanish musicians, who flocked to the French capital seeking out training, opportunities and new artistic horizons. From that fruitful interchange arose a dialogue of influences, which flowed back and forth: while these creators adopted many features of French modernism, they also brought with them the musical lifeblood of the Iberian peninsula, which exerted a powerful fascination on several Gallic composers. Under the baton of its conductor Ludovic Morlot and accompanied by soprano Nùria Rial, the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and National Orquestra of Catalonia will explore this crossroads by opposing emblematic works by Debussy and Ravel - deeply seduced by the Iberian influence - with the music of Catalan composers based in Paris, such as Mompou and Albéniz. The evening will also include the world premiere of Pluja, the latest creation by Barcelona-born Miquel Oliu.
