A look at the ocean through the prism of the great symphonic approach of the French impressionists.
The sea has been the source of inspiration for myriad authors, among them Wagner with his fine maritime opera The Flying Dutchman. But it was perhaps the French who dedicated the most beautiful pages to the ocean. Ernest Chausson did it with his Poème de l'amour et de la mer, sung here by the young soprano Miren Urbieta-Vega, one of the Basque voices with greatest international reach. Debussy, for his part, achieved the perfection of his impressionist language with La mer, in which he captures the games of the waves and the dialogue of the wind. All of an orchestral spectacle conducted by José Miguel Pérez-Sierra, with us once again following his success in previous seasons.
