The concerts, slated for October 16 and 17, have marked the opening of the season at Vienna's Musikverein Concert Hall.

The Basque National Orchestra's Principal Conductor, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, has conducted the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, one of the finest in the world. The concerts, slated for October 16 and 17, have marked the opening of the season at Vienna's Musikverein Concert Hall. Maestro Andrés Orozco-Estrada has replaced the outstanding Finnish conductor and composer Esa-Pekka Salonen. In addition to being one of the leading conductors on the international stage, Salonen is also widely acclaimed for his career as composer.

This past April Andrés Orozco-Estrada took up the baton for another world-class orchestra, the Munich Philharmonic, replacing Christoph Eschenbach.

Orozco-Estrada has been Principal Conductor for the Basque National Orchestra since the 2009/2010 concert season. Recently, Maestro Orozco-Estrada was in charge of inaugurating the Basque National Orchestra's 2010/2011 concert season. As one of the season's highlights Orozco-Estrada will conduct the Orchestra in a performance of L.V. Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, and Gustav Mahler's Fourth Symphony. Andrés Orozco-Estrada will also conduct the Orchestra on an important concert tour in Germany and another one in Extremadura.
