Paris was the centre of the world of music in the 19th and 20th centuries, and this programme showcases both the talent that developed there and those who, like Mendelssohn, were drawn to Paris despite not being French. The master of ceremonies of this journey to Paris's musical “depths” is Lionel Bringuier, a precocious director who right after graduating from the Paris Conservatoire was already working with such important orchestras as the Los Angeles Philharmonic. What's more, Bringuier is a great specialist in French music, attested to by his award-winning discography, which features names such as Ravel, Saint-Saëns, D'Indy or Berlioz.
A highlight of the programme is Cello Concerto No. 1 by Camille Saint-Saëns, which will be played by Jonathan Roozeman, an extremely young Dutch-Finnish cello player whose career took off in 2015 when he won the prestigious Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, and who has already made his début with directors such as Valery Gergiev, Esa-Pekka Salonen or Sakari Oramo.
