In recent years, Robert Treviño has gained worldwide recognition as a leading conductor of Mahler's music, whose symphonies he has debuted with orchestras such as the London Symphony and the Tonhalle Orchester in Zurich. On this occasion, Treviño has chosen one of the Bohemian composer's most complex works, Symphony No. 9, which Alban Berg hailed as "the most marvellous thing that Mahler ever wrote". Completed two years before his death, Mahler's Ninth Symphony is his final masterpiece, together with The Song of the Earth and the incomplete Symphony No. 10. Like them, his Ninth is imbued with an awareness of death through a fascinating palette of sounds that demonstrates Mahler's orchestral mastery.
