We close the season in the company of Pinchas Zukerman, an exceptional violin player that has visited the Basque National Orchestra regularly in recent years. This time he will join Robert Trevino with his second instrument in hand, the viola, to present Bartok's Concerto for Viola, the Hungarian composer’s last score left incomplete as a result his death. Having recorded one of the benchmark versions of this concerto in 1990, Zukerman has been one of its greatest defenders and has not ceased performing it around the world throughout his extensive career. Following a page from Wagner’s opera Lohengrin, Trevino will also conduct Elgar’s Symphony No.1. Faced with so many masterpieces that went unnoticed at first, this breathtaking symphony enjoys the strange honour of having had one of the most successful débuts in the annals of classical music, having been performed more than 100 times around the world in its first year of existence.
